7 Weeks Old!

Overnight it seems as though Lily has grown out of her newborn outfits.  Her footed pajamas are all so tight and her onesies barely snap.  Seven weeks ago she was so small and skinny we were rolling up her sleeves.  She was swimming in everything!

This jumper looks like capris!
Uncle Brayden graduated from GVSU yesterday and Lily sat quietly through the 2.5+ hour long ceremony and then dinner.  Other than a couple of diaper changes, she was amazingly well behaved.

Aunt Libby came to visit today!  Although you may think Diesel is protecting her baby, I think in this situation she is trying to hint that Libby was her auntie first!  We miss you Lib - feel free to move back to Grand Rapids soon!

Diesel Jane + Lily Jane = Best Friends

Yes we named our daughter after our dog.  Most people think it's cute.  Some people look at us like we are wackos.  Either way it's the truth.  From very early on in my pregnancy Diesel would lay her head on my belly.  We were convinced she could hear Lily's heartbeat long before we could.  As my pregnancy progressed, Lily would kick at Diesel when we'd snuggle.  Diesel would get irritated and move her head around but Lily always followed.  This morning, for the first time since I delivered Lily, Diesel laid her head on my stomach.  She sat up abruptly and looked at me as if just realizing the screaming baby that has been around for the last six weeks is what was kicking her all that time.  She got off the bed and laid down by Lily's bassinet.  Clearly I've moved down the importance scale.

Yesterday we started introducing Lily to her crib starting with one nap.  I placed Lily in her crib and took the opportunity to crawl into my own bed.  Diesel stood in the doorway of our bedroom looking at me as if to say she didn't know what to do.  She turned around and sprawled across the hall floor with her nose in the doorway of Lily's room and her tail touching ours.  When I woke up an hour later, I found Diesel curled up against Lily's crib.

Gatekeeper

Mike was always the favorite before I got pregnant.  Then Diesel followed me around like I was the chosen one.  I think the scales have shifted - Lily is now at the top.  When Diesel isn't by Lily's side, she is laying by the front door waiting for Mike to come home from work.  I tell myself she's really only interested in the chipmunks but I know the truth - she doesn't lay by the door after daddy gets home...

Could she be any closer to the bouncy?  I suppose she could be under it.

Weekend in Indy

We spent this past weekend in Indy visiting with Mike's family.  We got to meet Miss Anna and all five Hoy grandkids were together for the first time.  It was worth the five hour car ride to see everyone!

Due Date

April 20th, 2012 - today was Lily's original due date and here she is almost six weeks old! It's hard to imagine still being pregnant the last couple of weeks. Time has flown by!

We are headed to Indy today to meet our new niece Anna. Lily's first big road trip! All five Hoy girls will be in one place at one time. Expect to see lots of pictures soon!

Rolling Rolling Rolling

Lily has always hated tummy time - screams her head off for the duration.  Today Mike put her down on her tummy and we sat down to devour some nachos and the next thing we know she's laying on her back kicking her feet all over the place.  Mike put her back on her tummy and what do you know - she screamed until she rolled herself right back over and then was happy as can be.

In other exciting news - our beautiful niece made her way into this world - four weeks early.  Brett and Hollie welcomed Anna Elizabeth last night at 10:05pm at 6lbs 9oz and 20.5 inches long.  These two Hoy girls were surely more ready for the world than any of us!  Lily and Anna should have been three weeks apart had they both been born close to their due dates but instead will be five weeks since they were so stubborn!

Sweet Annie - looks just like her daddy of course
Tomorrow we have Lily's "newborn" photo session with Erin Alies Photography.  I am so excited for Erin to work her magic and to see the fabulous photos she takes.  In preparation for her shoot, I perused Etsy and Pinterest to find a cute outfit.  I really wanted a tutu but had a bit of sticker shock over the prices.  I googled instead and found a DIY tutu how-to and created my own masterpiece for under $10.  I can't wait to put it on her!

She's going to grow out of it so fast!

Future Husband

Today Lily and I got to meet her future husband!  Colt was born 4 days after Lily and looks JUST like his daddy.  Sorry Car - join the club - my kid looks nothing like me either.

It's refreshing to know that Lily isn't the only baby that spits up all the time.  I'm so grateful to have someone else to go through this with!

Time Flies

It's hard to believe our little girl was 4 weeks old yesterday! She is getting so big - starting to fill out her newborn clothes which she seemed to be lost in just last week.

So Big!

Today Lily weighed 4lbs, 15 oz - almost 5 lbs!  She also measured 18 3/4 inches long.  She is getting so big so fast!  Her next appointment is in another month when she'll have her two month vaccinations.  Her doctor expects her to be 6-7 lbs by then.

He also noted that all preterm babies have reflux.  The valve between the stomach and the esophagus is underdeveloped in all babies but extremely underdeveloped in preterm babies.  This means lots of spit up!  As long as she's gaining weight and not screaming all day long, her doctor is not concerned.  He said no caffeine for me - I'm already going through Biggby and Dr. Pepper withdrawals.  We can also try thickening her milk using rice cereal since breast milk is typically "skim" compared to formula.  If her reflux gets super unbearable, he would prescribe baby zantac (I seriously think she stole my heartburn) and we might try introducing formula.  As for now, he advised not to wear anything that needs dry cleaning for the next 4-6 months.  AWESOME.

As for visitors and outings - we are still under a bit of quarantine.  Limited visitors are ok as long as they are healthy and wash their hands.  Still no interaction with little kids and still no outings in big group settings.  Her doctor said we'd only have to suffer a few more weeks until her original due date but ideally he'd like us to wait until after her vaccinations.  Good thing both of those are right around the corner!
