Yup that's right - au revoir, Adiós, Bye Bye, uz redzēšanos, Hej då (I know you'll all be googling those last few) newborn clothes!
Yesterday I packed up all of Lily's newborn clothes after coming to the realization she wasn't stretching her legs out straight because her pajamas were just too short...weird. Then I had to sort through all of her clothes to figure out what exactly she had for three months (thank goodness Lesley and I went shopping for pajamas...and other stuff...on Tuesday). I remember standing in front of her closet when she was born three months ago thinking this four pound little baby will NEVER fit into any of this stuff for months! And here I was cutting the tags off everything right on time. Carters - I'm hands down keeping you in business - I'm addicted.

Sun Filled Weekend
We spent the holiday weekend back in Vicksburg visiting with family and friends. Lily will no doubt be a water baby - she loves her boat rides and hanging out by the pool.
It's never a dull moment when we visit. Lily demonstrated her projectile vomiting for both Grandmas - Grandma Deedee even got it on video tape. If I can get a copy I'll be sure to post it.
When we left home on Thursday, Lily had been having diarrhea and vomiting all day (I know you don't want to hear about it but it sets up this story very nicely). I called our pediatrician and after they blew me off with a crap answer I decided we will be switching ASAP. At 2:17am Friday morning, Mike was changing Lily's diaper on the bed and I was sleeping. The next thing I know, Mike is telling me to get up and help him. I don't have my glasses on so all I can tell is that Mike is as far away from the baby as possible and Lily is laying next to me without a diaper on - as you may have guessed Lily pooped everywhere. When I was finally able to get my glasses on, I realized that it wasn't just on the bed but the floor, her bassinet, Mike, and the washer (for those of you unfamiliar with my parents' home they turned my childhood bedroom into a laundry room and threw a bed in to pretend it's still my room). Move over projectile vomitting - projectile pooping is moving in.
Thankfully, Lily's pooping and vomiting have gotten under control. We have had three full days without any projectile vomiting - something that hasn't happened in weeks. The last time she went just one day was 10 days ago so hopefully we are the right track. We have taken her off powdered formula and put her on the ready-to-feed premade liquid. I'm not sure what we can thank for the last few peaceful days but it's been amazing. We are looking for a new pediatrician so hopefully soon we will have better answers to this projectile vomiting thing!

Baby Zantac
Who would have thought there was really such a thing as infant Zantac? Lily has been a really spitty eater since she was born. In the past few weeks, her feedings have become super fussy and projectile vomiting has been more frequent. She's been screaming during her feedings, pushing the bottle away, wriggling and kicking, and then spewing what we did manage to get down all over the place. There were days where she would projectile vomit three or four times. I have done more loads of laundry in the past two weeks than I have in my entire life and I'm now regretting not having our furniture scotch guarded.
After changing both Lily's and my clothes twice in four hours on Monday, I called the pediatrician. At all of her checkups we'd been discussing her reflux and as long as she was happy Dr. Lake didn't feel there was a need for medication. Now that she was so unhappy, they prescribed her with Zantac. Since starting her on the medication Monday evening, she has only had exorcist like vomiting twice. Knock on wood, this decreasing trend will continue. If it doesn't - I'm investing in a commercial sized washer and dryer.

Soy it is
After what proved to be a fluke day last week, Lily has been doing pretty good. We switched her to a soy formula as opposed to a milk based formula and I think she takes her bottles better. She is still spitting up frequently but maybe not as much quantity wise.
And now that the weather is getting nicer we've been able to get outside a lot more!
Happy Mother's Day! |
It's hard to believe I celebrated my first Mother's Day this past weekend. I'm not sure that Mike and Lily can top my gift for next year since Monday we picked up my baby mobile - we traded in my beautiful sports car for an Acura SUV. Has anyone ever seen that episode of Up All Night where Reagan refuses to part with her convertible? Yup - that was me. http://www.nbc.com/up-all-night/episode-guide/season-1/387539/new-car/episode-104/407729/
Lily is nine weeks old already! Time is going by so fast! She is getting so big and strong. And she stays awake a lot during the day. It's strange to feed her and then have her be so alert for more than 30 minutes instead of crashing immediately for a nap. She enjoys watching tv - which I know is frowned upon for infants - but I'm pretty sure her brain isn't turning to mush.

When it rains it pours
This is the face I got to see all day yesterday. Let's rewind to 5:30am when my daughter was normal....
I fed her as if it were any other day then put her back to bed only to be woken up at 7ish to her crying - no that's not right - full on WAILING. I changed her diaper, tried giving her another bottle, nothing worked. Her nose was running, she was hacking, her eye was full of goop but she didn't have a fever so the pediatrician said let it run it's course. Thanks dude - do you want to come over and hang out with us while it "runs it's course"? This went on until after noon when she finally calmed down enough to take a bottle only to project it's contents halfway across the room. She finally fell asleep long enough for me to call my sister-in-law to chat which was interrupted by knocking at the door followed by the dog barking. Then the screaming started all over again. To make matters worse, I started her on different diapers which she pooped out the sides and back of one time and leaked out of another time. There was no "three strikes" for me - after two failed attempts I opened another brand new pack of diapers and threw the old brand in the Goodwill pile. When Mike walked through the door at 5:53pm, the dog puked all over the basement. I handed the baby over and locked myself in the bathroom, took a shower until the hot water ran out, and emerged to quiet house that smelled like Spot Shot. They WOULD be angels for their father. We ordered pizza and I didn't hear another peep out of her until she woke up at 6:00 this morning.
So what did I learn from all of this?
- A diaper is not just a diaper. I will NEVER use anything other than Pampers Swaddlers.
- Lily is not the only one who has projectile vomiting down to a science. Diesel is pretty good at it too.
- I wish my sister-in-law wasn't five hours away. It would be much easier to laugh, cry, and bitch over coffee.
- My sweet baby girl can be the devil.

Sleep...Is that you?
Knock on wood....we are sleeping 5-6 hours at night! More than a month ago I never thought this day would come. Or that we'd be so excited to sleep for 5 hours and actually feel like we slept through the whole night.
Lily had her two month appointment yesterday. I can't believe she's two months old already or that my maternity leave is half over. She had to get her second round of vaccines and she hated them. Thank goodness she doesn't scream like that on a regular basis. Her poor little thighs were so swollen all day. She was not a happy camper. Her stats are amazing: she weighed 7lbs 14oz (almost 8lbs!) - AND almost double her birth weight! And she is 20.5 inches long so it's no surprise that she's outgrowing all of her newborn outfits. She is going to be taller than me in no time.
