Four Month Checkup

Lily had her four month check-up today.  The bad news was she got three shots and screamed her head off.  The good news is she is 11 lbs, 14 oz (practically 12 lbs) and 24 inches long!  It's no wonder she is barely fitting in her 3 month clothes length wise.  Dr. Silvernale went over where she is on the growth charts, both actual as well as corrected.  For weight she is just over the 10th percentile actual but 50th percentile corrected.  For height she is 50th percentile actual but 75th corrected (we have Daddy to blame for that one).  He wasn't concerned about her weight being such a significant difference after hearing that Daddy was 6' 3".  At this appointment they also went over developmental milestones (based on actual birth age) and she only missed a couple which means she's doing amazing for her gestational age.  We also got the go ahead to start solid foods in a couple of weeks - mid-August.  Normally premature babies have to wait until their corrected age to be 4 months but his only concern with Lily was that since she's had eating issues it may be better to wait until she's a little bit stronger in a sitting position.  In addition to a developmental checklist we went over what I'd like to call a "home-environment" checklist.  Questions included: Does anyone in the household smoke? No (the first one was easy); Does anyone in the household consume alcohol? Um yes, occasionally (Right?); Are there firearms in the house? Yes...; And they are stored.....? In a locked gun case; And the key is....? Hidden. (Goodness maybe I should have lied.  And shouldn't we be discussing these questions when Lily is actually mobile?  Perhaps we'll revisit....then we can discuss at what age it's appropriate to teach her how to handle a firearm responsibly); Are there any pets in the home? Yes, dog; What Kind? Labradoodle; And there is always someone supervising the dog when it's around Lily? Yes. (You mean it's not ok for Diesel to be the supervisor?); Are both parents working? Yes; And what type of child care are you using? Nanny/daycare (Probably wouldn't have been good to tell him Diesel has it under control).  Long story short, I think we passed the home environment test.  I mean - I got to bring Lily back home.

No Go on the Powdered Formula

Mike and I decided on Thursday night we were going to try and reintroduce Lily to powdered formula.  I mixed every 6oz bottle with 2oz powdered formula, 4oz ready made.  I mean - how could only 2oz of powder upset her stomach right?  WRONG!  The projectile vomiting started first thing Saturday morning and continued nearly every feeding until Sunday morning when I refused to give her anymore.  In addition to the projectile vomiting, she was fussy all of Saturday - crying and screaming most of the afternoon.  Since we stopped with the powder mixture Sunday morning, she's back to her smiley self.  It baffles me that the smallest amount of powder can have this great of an effect on her.  I think we've learned our lesson.  Sorry Lily - we don't have any money for college because your diet is too expensive.

Volleyball Reunion

Last summer, with a group of friends, we played in a beach volleyball league.  Little did we know that the "B" league did not stand for the beer league but instead for the wannabe "A" league.  As you can imagine, we did not win the championships.  While it was mentioned that we play again this summer (mostly by competitive Carolyn), no team was ever organized (mostly because I thought she was nuts).  So instead of organizing a team this year, I organized a reunion Friday - 13 adults, 2 babies - camped out at The Shore at The Score until they gave us a table.  Great weather, good food (bad service per the usual), palm trees, and lots of fighting over who got to hold the babies next made for an enjoyable evening!  It's crazy how so much has changed from just 12 months ago.

Four Months Old

Four months ago I was not supposed to be in labor and Lily was not supposed to arrive for another month and a half.  And if you had told me four months ago that Lily would have fat rolls on her little stick legs and weigh more than 10 pounds I would have called you crazy.  It's amazing how much she has changed - you would never know she was a preemie.

Happy 4th of July!

Yesterday was Grandma and Grandpa's annual 4th of July gathering and while the thermostat read 101 degrees, it didn't keep us away from the lake.  Even Lily got to go swimming for the first time!  It was so great to see our growing family.  Next year at this time we'll have two little boys to add to the mix!

Cousin Norah Jane came to play!

Big Week of Firsts

We survived a number of firsts this past week:

Mommy's first week back at work (which I thoroughly enjoyed).  It is now clear to me that I am not the type of person that can be a full time stay at home mom.  It was pretty easy to leave Lily behind while I spent the day with walking, talking adults.  I think people are shocked when they learn that I love being back at work but Lily hasn't really been the easiest baby.

Lily's first time with a sitter other than family.  Our new babysitter Liz will be coming three days a week to watch Lily until she goes to Appletree at the end of July and we love her.  I know we will be spoiled after these next few weeks of having Liz come to our house - especially Diesel.

Mommy and Daddy had their first night out without Lily.  Thanks Auntie Kait for getting married so we could party all night!  I think it's also safe to say this was our first night up past 10:00pm.  And Lily had her first overnight stay at Grandma and Grandpa's.  It was nice to get some stuff done around the house (as much as I could after a night on the town) but it was strange to not have her around for a few days.  I'm glad she recognized us today!

And probably the most exciting first - sleeping through the night!  Lily actually had two or three nights in a row of bedtime at 8:30pm and waking up at 6:00am.   Unfortunately for Grandma this hasn't been the case the past couple of nights.  I'm hoping it's because she's not at home in her own bed and she'll fall back into the new routine when we return home after the holiday weekend.  Keep your fingers crossed!
