Hodge Podge of Updates

It's been awhile since I've updated our blog.  You would think with the conclusion of busy season I would have all this free time.  I've mostly been filling it with all the things I should have been doing during busy season but never got around to.  Lily has been developing quite the personality in the last few weeks - it's been so much fun watching her grow but also crazy at the same time.

We spent a weekend at my parents house recently.  They've purchased a crib and queen bed for my brother's bedroom.  While he complains they are taking over his room I remind him that he's better off sleeping in the laundry room anyway - I mean he's always bringing it back home anyway.  Lily hasn't always had the best of luck sleeping at their house.  She wasn't a big fan of the pack and play, hence the crib purchase.  On the Friday night that we stayed there she woke up numerous times just screaming.  By 3:00am, Mike just brought her into bed with us and she was out like a light.  That was the first (and hopefully last) time we will be co-sleeping.  If only I had a picture of the three of us and Diesel in a queen sized bed together.  Promoters of co-sleeping must all have king sized beds.

That weekend Mike put the boatlift in with a new set of magic wheels (I swear I helped push a little).  Both Diesel and Lily loved being able to hang out on the lake for a bit - note Lily's winter coat!

In other exciting news, we finally said good-bye to the orange machine (the grand am) and purchased Mike a new VW Passat.  This transition was long overdue and Mike was actually sad he didn't get to say good-bye.  Friday I stopped into the dealership to have it appraised for trade-in and ended up buying him the Passat on the spot.  It's a manual transmission so I got to drive around a loaner for the day until the dealership delivered the Passat to our house - they are so good to us.  Mike and the boys stuffed it full of their golf clubs and headed up to Crystal the very next morning for it's first voyage.

Twelve Month Appointment

Slash thirteen months.  I blame busy season.  On a lot of things.

Lily weighed 18 pounds 7 ounces and was 31 inches long.  This puts her in the 5th percentile for weight and 90th for height.  This also puts us back to the doctor in a month for a weight check.  I swear I feed my kid.  She's on the toddler menu at daycare AND downs four 8oz bottles of whole milk a day.  Eating is not the problem.

She's recovering well from her stint with Scarlett Fever - likely part of the cause for the low weight.  I'm convinced she's just going to be tall and skinny.  The poor girl will be in a rear facing car seat for the rest of her life at this rate.  One thing the doctor did mention was that she has fluid in her ears again that he would have expected to clear up with her antibiotic.  They will check them again at her weight check but if she gets one more ear infection here soon we'll be on our way to the Ears, Nose, and Throat specialist to have a consultation for tubes.  Her doctor said 4 infections in 6 months or 6 infections in a year is cause for alarm.  She's had three since October so we're pushing it.  From what the doctor told me (as well as Google and several of both our co-workers), is that it can be life changing.  While it sounds extreme, it is a fairly common procedure.  The tubes basically reroute the fluid that causes both the ear infection and chest congestion.  Stay tuned on that issue...

Yesterday while we were walking into the doctor's office, a man was walking in with an Irish bulldog puppy.  Our office is on the second floor of the building which has an open glass stairwell to the second floor.  There is an urgent care, lab, and OB/GYN office on the main floor.  The man was walking quickly - as if to be sneaking the dog through the lobby - into the OB office.  Lily, who rarely decides to actually talk, started shouting "DOG! DOG! DOG!" and pointing.  Even as I carried her up the stairs, she could still see the puppy and would not stop yelling and pointing.  I of course was embarrassed we'd blown the guy's cover but he and all of the patients in the waiting room got a good laugh.

Happy Tax Day!

To most people, 4/15 is just another day.  Perhaps they just got up and went to work.  Or maybe it's the day they signed and mailed their tax return.  To me - it's like the last day of school.  I wake up feeling giddy knowing that most of my day will be spent on the phone chasing down signature forms and checks, I'll take longer than a 30 minute lunch, and I'll leave work before 4:00 to head straight to the bar.  4/15 is also the reason I haven't made a post in almost two weeks because I've been holed up in a conference room cranking out tax returns.  Some may say that doesn't sound like fun but the conference room had floor to ceiling windows, endless candy, and lots of food.  You can't get better than that during tax season right?

My girlfriend has been bugging me about every other day for the last week to get my blog updated.  This morning she told me it was 4/15 so I had plenty of time now.  My personal taxes have been mailed, my inbox is down to only 170 items, and my expense report is half done so I suppose that means I have plenty of time.  My to do list for tomorrow includes finish my expense report, take Lily to the doctor, make a hair appointment (for both myself and the dog), go grocery shopping, and maybe review a tax return or two.  Hopefully I get through some of it.

Lily celebrated her second Easter (seems so weird we're off the "first" holidays).  We spent the day with lots of family fun - egg hunt, baskets, pinata - the works.

This past week, Lily got to add something to her list of "firsts" - a nice diagnosis of Scarlett Fever - conveniently timed the week before my biggest deadline of the year.  Head to toe rash, sore throat, the works.  Grandma to the rescue.  We pumped her full of tylenol and antibiotics and she's back in action.

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  The weather outside is warm, the last of my chasing clients is wrapped up, and I'm anxiously awaiting 3:00 ice cream and 4:00 bar time.  And I couldn't be more excited to enjoy my Fridays off with this crazy one.
