Lily had her Christmas program for daycare last week. It just so happened that was the day an infection decided to take residence in my ear - yes apparently not just my daughter gets them. I'm telling you this because it explains how the next few things came into play. I stayed home from work that day, which turned out to be a good thing because a winter storm blew in and dropped several inches of snow on us. Instead of canceling the program, the show remained as scheduled. If I had to come pick my kid up from daycare they must have thought I could drive one mile down the street to the church - I could - and so could many other parents. As we were sitting in the auditorium, I took a few pictures of the stage to make sure my camera lighting was the way I wanted it. That's when I realized I'd forgotten to grab the media card. Mike blamed the drugs for my lack of thinking. So when it was Lily's turn to get on stage, I stood up to sneak a few pictures on my phone and she of course caught me. She threw herself into a tizzy and ran off stage sobbing. Once she calmed herself back down, she wanted to get back on stage - even though her class was no longer performing. She made a beeline down the aisle and I was THAT parent dragging my screaming child from the building.
Lily and I attempted potty training one weekend. I thought I would follow this method where you throw away all of the diapers, stick them in big girl undies, and shazam - she'd be potty trained. Lily had other ideas. While she loved her big girl undies, she disliked having to take a break from playing to actually sit on the potty. She decided holding her bladder was a much better idea. So we've backed off the strict three day potty training regiment and will try again post tax season. She did however request a pull-up this morning and tell me she needed to use the potty. So we're at least getting somewhere.
Even though the following series of photos may not appear as though my child is having fun, she couldn't get enough of sledding. We took her out on a pretty cold day and when Bumpa, Dad, and Mom wanted to go inside, Lily threw a tantrum. She pounded on the door and wanted to go back out. You'd never know since she didn't crack a smile.
And I'm so excited that I finally get to share these pictures of the things Erin and I crafted up for Aimee's baby shower. I'm mad that I forgot to take a picture of the burlap wreath we did but I'm sure Aimee will send me one of it up in the nursery - right?
We are doing the 25 books of Christmas with Lily this year. Starting on the first of December, she's gotten to pick a present from a stack under the tree and open it to find a book. We've done this each night before bed and each night she picks one out (completely ignoring the other gifts which still baffles me), unwraps it, throws away the paper, reads it with us, puts it on the bookshelf and then goes to bed. This is when I discovered just how much she likes to help throw things away. We've also recently discovered she really enjoys doing the laundry (please also note the big girl panties!)
Well, I think that pretty much sums up the past few weeks of our lives. I'll leave you with one more festive video as you start to think of Christmas!
