"We were meant to go through this mom thing together"

This is a quote from my fabulous friend Carolyn who had to cancel our playdate for yesterday because her son had been sick all week.  Little did she realize I was going to cancel because Lily had the stomach flu.  She nailed it on the head as she rambled apologies and then vented on through her email.  I was laughing out loud at my desk because not one day before did Lily wake up screaming, covered in vomit and Mike had already taken off for work.  After I had cleaned everything up, I came back to find Diesel had scavenged through the trash and there was vomit everywhere.  Again.  But for a girl who never wants to just sit and snuggle, I took advantage.

It's been a trying few weeks in the Hoy house.  Busy season arrived out of no where and it seems the days are just ticking by too quickly.  Lily is going through all these strange phases and the tantrums are just getting more and more spectacular.  The other day I picked her up from daycare and we stood in the parking lot in sub-zero temperatures arguing about getting in the carseat.  You'd think I would win for being so much bigger but she has the planking thing down.  She proceeded to scream the entire ride home once I did finally get her buckled and then she didn't want to get OUT of the car.  She stood in the garage pounding on the car door until she realized I had gone inside.  She came flailing into the house only to punch me in the leg for which she immediately got timeout.  At this point she began kicking the wall with her shoes still on so I relocated her to the center of the living room and started dinner, folded a few loads of laundry, checked my email, unloaded the dishwasher - you name it I had time to do it.  And then it was like a switch had been flipped because Lily took off her coat and shoes and nicely put them in the bin in the mudroom and asked me for dinner.  Devil.

And this is the "I dress myself thank you very much phase".  Some days I approve and some days I don't:

We got to celebrate Grandma Hoy's retirement a few weeks ago.  Little did she know that the entire family was coming in for a surprise.  We celebrated over dinner and drinks with most of her co-workers and a few other friends.  I'm surprised -  I actually got one picture of her smiling with Grandpa!

We also got to meet Baby Weston!  Lily was excited to see him and loved petting his belly and touching his little nose.  She held him for a quick second - not long enough for a picture - and we've mostly decided it was a ploy for mom to put him down.

The weather has also been pretty unlikeable.  The other day my 15 minute commute turned into an hour and thirty minutes when an accident on the expressway clogged literally every other route I knew to downtown.  If you're asking why I took so many pictures while I should have had my hands on the wheel - don't worry I wasn't moving.
