The days are long...

...but the years are short.  And just like that my maternity leave is over.

I'm more than ready.  Lily needs to get back to structure - heck I need to get back to structure - and Julia...well she'll be fine too.

Speaking of Julia.  With Lily I had this blog updated after every happening.  Maybe when I go back to work I can schedule some time...right...

We've been on the go most days trying to keep Lily entertained and on the days we don't leave the house, it's hard to get a chance to sit at the computer and write.  Especially if both kids are entertaining themselves.  There's always something else that seems more pressing - like laundry.  Why is there ALWAYS laundry???

So I guess for now my goal is monthly (ok maybe bi-monthly) updates.  But I promise to be as detailed as possible - as if I could remember what happened yesterday let along over a month ago - ok so I promise there will be lots of pictures.  That I can always guarantee.

Julia turned 2 months old.  And well then she turned 3 months old.

While Julia hung out with Grandma and Grandpa Hoy; Mom, Dad, and Lily participated in the annual Austin Lake Poker Run.  Even Lily's bestie got to come join in on the action.  I'm so grateful we've gotten to be close friends with her parents.  The other day I read this article about how it's ok not to be friends with your kids' friends parents.  To summarize: it's exhausting enough to keep up your current friend relationships, let alone trying to cultivate 24 new ones each school year.  That however is not the case with the Tollas clan.  They are forever friends.  We share a lot of the same interests and they are always up for crazy shenanigans like a poker run.

Father's Day was extra special this year with a visit from Mike's nieces and nephew.  And as always, the Bloody Mary bar was present.

I took a two week hiatus from leave and returned to work to help support our summer leadership programs in Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Chicago.  The students were great and it gave me a nice little break with walking talking adults.  And yup.  That's me with the chairman of the board and our CEO.  No big deal.

We enjoyed a nice long weekend for 4th of July at Grandma and Grandpa Sundstrand's, complete with fabulous food, lots of family time, plenty of lake time, and cocktails.  There's always cocktails.

Julia's discovered there's more to her hands than just being attached to her body.  She loves to grab and reach for things and is starting to get her favorites.  She's become quite attached to a white bunny stuffed animal and thoroughly enjoys a pig bell.

Lily spent a week at farm school learning how to take care of the animals - feeding, brushing, and riding.

We spent a week in Grand Haven with my family enjoying the beach, the lake, and the town - doing all things touristy.  The house we rented was steps away from the boardwalk and beach and we did our best to take full advantage.

And best of all, our boat has been in working order all summer.  We've tried as much as possible to enjoy the river, setting up shade wherever we can in order to prolong our time outside with Julia.

It's been a great summer and these last few weeks before school starts will fly by.  As I head back to work I just need to keep reminding myself I will blink and this...

...will all be over.
