Project: Paint

In our last two homes, picking a paint color was never an issue.  Most of the time I'd look at a chip in the store, bring home a gallon of it, and get to work.  But we're really struggling in the new house.  I think a lot of it has to do with the lighting.  We were really spoiled with high ceilings and lots of natural light in both of our previous two homes.

We're making some progress.  Mostly because Mike keeps pushing and complaining about how much he hates looking at the swatches I threw up on the wall - SIX WEEKS ago.

So last Friday Lily and I went to the paint store to pick up our paint.  Which color did we go with you ask?  Well not a single one of the samples of course!  While Mike lectures me about how much $$ I spent on just samples of paint, I remind him that nearly every single color is now in our house somewhere, just not the living room.

The top left color my sister-in-law used in her formal living room and I loved it.  Unfortunately we don't have the tall beautiful ceilings and windows they have and it just didn't work.  Instead it ended up on our front door over the hideous red.

The second color on the top left has followed us to all three homes.  In both of our previous houses, the color had been in my office space.  It seemed to be calming and peaceful.  At this house, my office space is null and this color ended up in our bathroom.  Also a room that requires calming and peacefulness.

The third color on the top didn't tickle us but the last color on the top is going in the sunroom.  Eventually.  The first color on the bottom left will someday be all of our trim, one of the middle two grays will be in our laundry/mud hallway off the garage.  And the last color on the bottom came over from the old house's living room.  We color matched it and threw it up in the dining room over the hideous red (again with the red!).  The color match wasn't quite as gray and I was a teeny bit disappointed but I'll take over the red any day.  Now to just get those bookshelves white.

Now, for the living room before and afters.  It still amazes me every time I put up a fresh coat of paint - the look of the room just instantly looks and feels better.  Next on our list will be ripping down the wood paneling and updating the fireplace.  My timeline would be before Christmas….we'll see if I can convince Mike of that.
