No use crying over spilt milk

I googled where this saying came from today.

Meaning: being upset over something that has already happened and cannot be changed.

Origin: mid-1600s in a collection of English proverbs "No weeping for shed milk".

So why am I telling you this?  Because my sweet sweet child threw a completely full glass of milk across our dining room this week.  Her reason?  She wanted the yellow cup.  Not the pink cup.  Duh mom.  That's worth milk all over the place.

Conveniently Mike was outside mowing the lawn during this episode.  I think smoke was coming out of my ears.  I scooped Lily out of her chair and plopped her into time out where she sat for about 1 minute screaming her head off.  Then as I sopped everything up, she started following me back and forth from the sink to the mess apologizing over and over again.  To this I gave her the silent treatment until, when I was down on all fours scrubbing my carpet, she grabbed my face with both hands and made me look in her eyes and said "Mama.  I'm SORRY.  Hug?"

How can you say no to that?  Damn daycare has her trained so good - apologize and then makeup.

When Mike came inside, Lily pointed to the dining room chair soaked in spot cleaner and said, "Daddy, I spilled my milk".  What a little liar.
